CounsellingOur approach to counselling is based on rehabilitation counselling – assisting and supporting people whose lives have been affected in physical, psychological or emotional ways, perhaps through illness, accident or other trauma. Rehabilitation counselling aims to enable people to make realistic choices about how they live their lives within their networks and communities in ways that satisfy them.

What differentiates HCT counselling from that of many other organisations in this field is its holistic approach. It places the individual with the difficulty in the context of their family and carers. The disability itself is seen in the context of the ongoing life experience of the person who is challenged by it. This means that an attempt is made to help the person discover their particular journey and the meaning of their disability on that journey.

Our counsellors are currently working with children with a range of learning disorders such as ADHD, Aspergers and Autism, many of them referred to us by Community Paediatricians.
